The Four Friends Campaign
Abstaining from the products yourself means you are no longer part of the problem. Though this in itself is fantastic and sets you apart from a great many, you are not yet a part of the solution. The point of the boycott is to change the problems that are being caused by the Coca-Cola company in many parts of the world. So, how do we go about that?
We make some noise.
Option One: Social Networking.
Within three days of posting the note that I did on Facebook, twenty out of forty-eight people had joined the movement. I am just as optimistic for those of you who have contacts in the hundreds. More people you can reach, right? Notes are a great way of doing this.
Tagging people in the note is an effective way of getting attention- it appears as a notification. Also, instead of tagging random people in one big note, tag certain groups so that you can speak to them and their values. This will let them relate; some people like a serious attitude and other people can't take life without humor seriously at all.
Feel free to take information from this site and put it in your note, but make the wording your own. Link to the website. Just remember to make it personal. That's what catches the interest of those who know you: your own personal touch.
Option Two: Casual Conversation.
A conversation you have may simply go in the direction of a product. If it seems to be headed that way, steer it there gently. Ask them if they still buy Coca-Cola products. You will likely have the opportunity to explain why you're boycotting when somebody asks why you passed on the drinks you were offered. If not, volunteer the fact that you're boycotting.
Option Three: Be Creative.
Make a poster. Scan it. Send it here. Send it other places. If you're artistic, break out your sketch pad tonight. If you're good at getting friends together and throwing a party, do so with a purpose.
Use your connections. Maybe you know the owner of a local business, a pastor, or somebody else with a little reach.
More Tips:
Be honest - Tell them what's important about it to you.
Be passionate - You'll never convince anybody it's worth while while you're staring at your fingernails.
Be driven - And make sure people are following through (particularly your special four).
